Microblading in the past vs. today - why modern techniques have nothing to do with the horror brows of the past

Microblading has long had a bad reputation: gray, bluish or reddish eyebrows, deep incisions in the skin and results that looked anything but natural. So it's no wonder that many customers are still skeptical today.

The good news: Today's microblading has little in common with that of the past.
Techniques, pigments and knowledge about skin types have developed massively.

As a professional brow studio, we work with Brows & Brows with modern methods and pigments of the latest generation and explain to you here quite transparently what has really changed.

Microblading in the past - why many results were problematic

In the early years of microblading (approx. 2005-2015), there were hardly any uniform standards. Many techniques were adopted from the classic tattoo sector and therefore had corresponding disadvantages.

Typical problems from the past:

Hardly adaptable to different skin types
Oily, large-pored or combination skin was often treated in the same way as dry skin - with poor results.

Very deep cuts in the skin
Microblading was often applied too deeply, almost like a tattoo. This led to scarring and unclean lines.

High metal content in the pigments
In the past, many paints contained high concentrations of iron oxides and other metals.

Uncontrolled color changes
UV light, skin metabolism and metal components caused the colors to fade unevenly.
➝ Gray
➝ Blue
➝ Reddish

These points are precisely the reason why microblading was long considered „outdated“ or „risky“.

Microblading today - what modern techniques do better

Today, professional brow artists work with completely different know-how. Modern microblading treatments are more precise, skin-friendly and color-stable.

1. finer needles & controlled technique

  • Create ultra-fine blades Soft strokes close to the hair
  • The pigments are more superficial introduced into the skin
  • This leads to better healing

2. high-quality, modern pigments

  • Significantly reduced metal content
  • Organic-inorganic hybrid pigments for stable results
  • Colors fade evenly instead of uncontrolled or spotty

3. individual color matching

  • Consideration of skin undertone, hair color & age
  • No more „uniform brown“ pigments
  • Goal: natural fading instead of visible residue

4. more knowledge about skin types

Today is clear: Not every skin is suitable for microblading and that is a sign of professionalism.

Important for customers to know: Microblading is not ideal for every skin type

As modern as microblading is today, it remains a technique with clear limitations.

Especially for oily, very large-pored or combination skin it may be that:

  • the fine hairs shed faster
  • the lines heal less clearly
  • the result does not last as long

In these cases Powder Brows often the better choice, as they:

  • heal softer
  • have a longer shelf life
  • run less

As a reputable brow studio, we recognize this during the consultation and do not recommend microblading across the board.

Our conclusion as brow experts

Microblading is Not „out“, but grown up.
Those who still see poor results today usually experience:

  • Outdated technologies & products
  • Unsuitable skin types
  • Lack of expertise

With Brows & Brows we rely on:

  • modern methods
  • high-quality pigments
  • honest advice
  • and above all: The right technique for the right skin type

Because perfect brows don't start with a treatment, but with expertise.
